    2009 Division Champions

The St. Louis Cardinals captured the National League Central title today with a win over the Colorado Rockies.  Adam Wainwright pitched 8 strong innings giving up 2 earned runs and striking out 11.  Wainwright was given a 4-3 lead late in the game when Jason LaRue hit a go ahead home run, his second of the year to left field.  Towards the end of the game, Ryan Ludwick came off the bench to pinch hit for Wainwright and jacked a 2 run home run to left center to give the Cardinals a 6-3 lead.  Ryan Franklin recorded the save and preserved Wainwrights 19th win of the season.

I remember, back in the earlier part of the year, all the baseball analysts and experts all agreed that the Cubs would run away with the division.  They were predicted to win the division with plenty room to spare.  The Cardinals were projected to go a modest 3rd place close behind the Brewers.

I didn’t believe them.  I knew the race was going to be close.  Being a Cardinals fan, I had to believe that they would win the division.  To be honest though, the way the team looked on paper was not very eye popping.  The emergence of Ryan Ludwick last year gave us a decent bat in the lineup to “protect” Albert Pujols, but really, the only guy that could do any damage consistently was El Hombre, The Machine, Prince Albert.

In the beginning, things seemed to be panning out as predicted.  The division was close.  The Cubs, Brewers, Astros, and even the Reds looked to be contenders.  As days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months, the race started to take shape.  The Cardinals, Cubs, and Brewers were all jocking for 1st place in the division.  For the most part, The Cardinals and Cubs would trade 1st and second place every few days.  Then, came the acquisitions made by the Cardinals front office.    Over the course of a week, we got Mark DeRosa from the Indians, Julio Lugo from the Red Sox, and Matt Holliday from the Athletics.  Despite giving up a lot of our good prospects, these three guys contributed so much to the Cardinals organization. The Cardinals offense was now clearly a step above the rest of the division.  Pujols now had someone to offer legitimate protection behind him.  The trades sparked a fire into the Cardinals that would not be put out.  They tore through the opposition especially their own division winning about 70% of in division games.  Now, they sit atop the Central Division as Champions.

Oh wait, I’ve only talked about the Cardinals offense.  If anything, it was their stellar pitching that kept them in games and in the position to win.  The 2009 season brought a lot of good things to our rotation.  With our workhorse ace Wainwright and Cy young winner Chris Carpenter atop the rotation, you could only picture good things happening for the Cardinals.  In addition, the breakout year of Lohse and Wellemeyer last year gave depth to an already strong lineup of starting pitching.  As you would expect, Wainwright and Carpenter delivered.  Wainwright as of today has won 19 games, pitched 227 innings and has accumulated 204 K’s.  Carpenter, despite missing about a month due to an injury sustained while batting, has won 16 games, lost only 4, pitched 187 innings and accumilated 138 K’s.  Unfortunately, Wellemeyer and Lohse each hd their own downfalls.  Wellemeyer could not find the form he discovered last season and is now currently in the bullpen.  Lohse has been injured most of the season.  Luckily, Joel Pinero has been spectacular.  Originally our number 5 starter, he has won 15 games, pitched 203 innings, and secured his position as the number 3 or 4 starter in the rotation.  Remember the additions of DeRosa, Lugo, and Holliday?  well, the Cardinals also aquired future hall of famer John Smoltz late in the season.  Due to the lack of quality starts from Wellemeyer and Lohse, Smoltz has taken the mound a few times and has done his job.  In his first start as a Cardinal, he struck out 7 batters in a row.  Talk about new found form.

I want to congratulate all the players and coaches for not letting Cardinal Nation down.  Also, what a great job the front office has done bringing in top of the line quality players in DeRosa, Lugo, Holliday, and Smoltz.

I’m looking forward to a great post season and another World Series team.

Good luck guys and GO CARDINALS!

    Commitment

Being in String Ensemble is a commitment.  If you’re in the class, you are considered the best of the best at Mililani High School.

Why is it then we have gotten lectured TWICE this fricken quarter?  Throughout my 4 years in String Ensemble, I have never had to sit through more than two lectures a YEAR. I know playing your instrument is not the only thing you have to focus on in school, but if you can’t handle all the responsibility , you should be in Concert Orchestra

Hirata told everyone to practice.  Has anyone practiced at home since he told us that a couple of weeks ago?!

Second Violins, what the fuck guys.  That part is just as important if not MORE important than the first violin part.  Right now, I have no respect for any of you.  None of you play with feeling or intensity or heart.  It makes me so mad to think when I play I do my best to make the orchestra better while you guys are cruising along for the ride.  Playing in an orchestra is a team effort and if someone on the team doesn’t contribute, the team loses.

    We sound like SHIT guys.

    my tumbilarity is 1?!

So my 4 day weekend was pretty eventful.  I got my provisional license, went to the beach, went to the Okinawan festival, and listened to some Cardinals games.

    Some bad parts:

    • made my elbow hurt for some reason
    • cut up my thumb on my RC cars engine
    • forgot to do my college essay

    short one tonight

    Provisionally

    Licensed.  finally ^^

My road test appointment was scheduled for 9:00 at Wahiawa.  I got there around 8:30 and ended up waiting there until 9:10ish  I got this old guy and after he squared all the paperwork away, we got started.  I had to parallel right out of the station and failed miserably :[  Luckily, the rest of the test was awesome.  I did a few right and left turns at several intersections and made a few lane changes.  As we got back, The guy told me i did horribly at the parking and “hogged” the crosswalk at one right turn.  So that was a total of 10 points off and I passed :]

Later, my dad told me that I can only drive by myself for a while.  He told me I have to learn how to drive alone and depend on myself before I can have other people in the car.  I guess that’s fair.  On a higher note, he said I can drive wherever I want ^^

The rest of the day was pretty cruise.  Went to the beach, did a bit of my Psychology worksheet, Cello, and had dinner.

    So yeah
